Virtual Therapy for LGBTQIA+ Adults in California

Navigating a heteronormative world as a queer person often leads to hiding parts of yourself. Whether these experiences are seriously impacting the rest of your life or you’re coming to therapy for totally different reasons, you deserve to have a therapist who sees you and holds space for all of you.

does any of this sound familiar?

  • You’ve questioned yourself or your identity, or struggled to find self-acceptance in who you are

  • You’re constantly scanning your environment, wondering how much of yourself is safe to show, who you need to tone down around, or whether it’s easier to just not take up space at all

  • You’ve struggled with anxiety, hypervigilance, or emotional numbness tied to years of having to monitor and adjust your words, your body, or your relationships

  • You long to be fully seen and understood without having to explain, defend, or hide who you are

  • You’ve been carrying the weight of shame, rejection, or “being too much” because of how you identify or what you need

  • You ask yourself often: Am I asking for too much? Am I being dramatic? Should this bother me less by now? because even when your reactions make sense, you’ve been taught to doubt them

  • You’ve experienced loss of relationships, community, safety, or belonging because being honest about who you are came with consequences

  • You feel grief for versions of yourself that didn’t get to exist freely, or for the ease you imagine life might have had if acceptance had come sooner

  • You’ve been impacted by cultural and systemic harm: homophobia, transphobia, biphobia, spiritual or religious trauma, family rejection, or legal or political discrimination that made you feel unsafe or invisible

  • You want support, but you’re wary because you’ve been misunderstood, minimized, or hurt before — and the idea of having to educate a therapist about your identity feels exhausting

This doesn’t have to be how you live your life.

  • LGBTQIA+ and gender affirming therapy is an approach to mental health care that actively acknowledges, respects, and honors diverse sexual identities, gender identities, and relationship structures. Rather than viewing queerness or gender diversity as something to be questioned, corrected, or explained, affirming therapy recognizes these as natural, healthy parts of who you are.

In therapy, we focus on how experiences like stigma, discrimination, family rejection, spiritual harm, or chronic invalidation may have impacted your life. This approach also acknowledges that LGBTQIA+ folks often carry layers of stress or trauma that come from living in a heteronormative world and facing disproportionate degrees of discrimination, as well as barriers in the legal, health, economic, and political systems. As an LGBTQIA+ affirming therapist, I aim to provide a safe space for you to deconstruct and heal from these experiences, while respecting and celebrating your authentic self.

  • That is absolutely normal and okay. You don’t have to know how you identify, and you are also allowed to keep exploring your identity and embrace any changes that feel authentic to you. Therapy can provide a safe, nonjudgmental space to be curious and explore who you are.

  • Definitely not. We will honor and acknowledge your identities in the work that we do, including how they may impact other parts of your life, but therapy can focus on whatever you need space for right now.

  • Yes! I am familiar with and support clients in a variety of relationship and/or family structures, including polyamorous, ethically non-monogamous, chosen family, and more. I am also affirming of those involved in the kink and/or BDSM communities.
